Town remembered for war martyrs, to whom a monument has been inaugurated in 1985, Stazzema is also famous for its numerous artistic monuments and a beautiful countryside. It is worth remembering the bell tower and parish church whose origins date back to IX century. The main church, dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, with three aisles and a splendid marble rose window of the XVI century, was built in 891 AC. Due to its perfect architectural style it has been awarded the title of National Monument which includes other religious buildings such as the Sanctuary of the 'Madonna del Bell'Amore', and 'Piastraio', the only two sanctuaries in Versilia. Not less important are other amenities in the historical center, in particular the fountain of ' Carraia' and 'Torre Medicea' or Clock Tower. Finally, don't miss the spectacular excursions in the surroundings peaks, such as 'Alpe della Grotta', Mountain Procinto, Foce delle Porchette, Palagnana, Petrosciana, Monte Forato, Pania della Croce, Callare del Matanna, all well known to the many mountain enthusiasts.
