Versilia and its beautiful beaches, its spectacular sunsets, the sparkling sea and coast. Versilia and its wide range of entertainment, its past and present, its multifaceted aspects of traditions and an illustrious heritage. Visitors arriving in Versilia are aware that the sea won't be the only treasure to preserve in their memories , because every corner of this territory will be a surprise.
Viareggio is a resort renowned for the colourful bathing establishments, the wonderful pinewoods and the famous Carnival. The town is also a modern tourist location offering such facilities like a new cycling path which is a part of the Eurovelo project, whose purpose is connect the main European cities by a network of cycle routes. Viareggio is a colourful city and its beauty is expressed through the buildings in pure Liberty style with their varied architectural shapes and hues.
An artistic vocation is also present in Pietrasanta. The medieval center is dominated by the massive structure of the 'Rocca di Sala', that stands like a proud guardian of craftsmanship treasures. Interesting to visit in town are the many craft workshops of the marble masters. The nearby resort, Forte dei Marmi obtained its symbol not only in the fortress from which it was named, but also from the marble like Pietrasanta. This was the same marble from which Michelangelo obtained his eternal masterpieces. An historical area like other districts in Versilia, an area much in demand because of its strategic position.
The district of Stazzema is an area with a historic heritage, stage of one of the saddest events during the second World War whose ancient church 'Saint Maria Assunta' has been chosen as a national monument. The village of Sant'Anna contains a memorial monument in honour of the Nazi slaughter victims. Other towns worth to mention are Seravezza, divided by the rivers Serra and Vezza, a thriving town, due to marble quarrying and local craftsmanship. Worth to mention is also Massarosa with its heritage of mansions and archaeological sites.
